I have finally finished my summer project, not that it took me that long but just getting to it and finishing it. I love this swing and got it for my birthday like 10 years ago, well with time it got a bit tattered and worn. I fond memories of sitting on the swing with my kids enjoying those summer nights. So all summer long all I wanted to do is sit on the swing and enjoy summer.

So here is the finished project and it has been nice to sit in the swing with Devin and Easton (Garett is too busy yet). I just wish my other kids would come home so I can sit and swing with them!

The Eagle had Landed!

Almost two years ago Hayden completed his Eagle project and now he is officially and Eagle. We finally held his court of honor and he is an Eagle Scout!

Ryley was the one who presented his Eagle to him!

Devin did the Eagle charge. He talked about how Hayden's scout experiences helped him the summer he worked in Alaska and how he had to save some peoples lives. Can you tell Devin is rowing the boat?

Hayden we are proud of you and your example to your younger brothers-sorry it took so long to finally get your Eagle presented to you!

(P.S. Hayden had his wisdom teeth pulled three days before, still a little swollen in the face but still so good looking!)

This year for the Holidays we were all able to get together after Christmas and it just happened to be Ashley's birthday!!! So we decided to go skating.( We tried to build an ice rink in the back yard like the good ole days but the weather was not cooperating.) We had a great time together!

This is what happens when someone wants to store their Go-Karts at our house for the past 5 years. Yeah it was time to play and have fun. We went to the church parking lot-after driving them down the Archer Highway- and had a blast! Thanks Dale!

It didn't take long to figure out what Kart was fastest and they all wanted that one. They came up with a game that they would drive and at the signal everyone had to get out and find a new Kart, kinda like musical chairs.

There were no wrecks but some close calls as they would play tag with the Karts.

On your mark get set GO!!!

The little neighbor girl was too short to push the pedal so I would work the gas and she would drive, we had a blast together! This was a fun way to finish up the summer!

If this truck looks familiar to you than you probably have been huckleberry picking with us. Old Blue makes the trip again to our secret spot-Huckleberry Valley. The picking this year were plentiful and a little bit of heaven on earth. Our family loves to pick huckleberries each year, I even think that the boys probably got almost a half gallon between them-most of it by Garett.

This year we went with the Fisher's and the Neeley's.

Yeah I know we look pretty red neck but that is what great memories are made of!

If you look close at the dirt and mud on Brett's face some of it is green-yeah he fell in a cow pie but kept on going!!!

Family Time! Stoker Reunion 2010-Bear Lake

This woman is the one of the people to blame. She did it she Started this all! My MOM is the most amazing person and because of her our family can experience JOY. Every summer the Dale and Linda Stoker family reunites and has a great time together. We make it simple but we have a lot of fun! This picture was taken in a ravine where we were rappelling, she said to me "I think I could do if I could just get over the edge". She is 82 and is always willing to have fun! Thank you Mom for instilling that sense of adventure in us all! WE LOVE YOU!!!

You gotta have the right toys at the party and some how those Call boys always show up with fun in mind. Thank you Nate and Matt for your willingness to share the JOY!

Anybody and their dog can come to the Stoker Family Reunion!

This year at our reunion we had a wake up call on how fragile life can be. Dax-Jaime's oldest son was having terrible headaches and throwing up but they decided to come to the reunion anyways. After one night of pain and misery Jaime took Dax and went to seek help, a few hours later and some test results back Dax was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The mood at the reunion changed immediately and the family rallied around the Steve Jensen Family to get them packed up so they could head to Salt Lake and be with Jaime and Dax. Dax just finished a round of chemo and radiation and got to go to Disneyland with his family. Are prayers are always with him and his family-We love you Dax!

Treasure Mountain Scout Camp 2010

Imagine this is the scene for a 12 year old going to scout camp, isn't he lucky! The camp is Treasure Mountain and it sits right at the base of the Teton's. This was Easton's first year at scout camp and he had an amazing time and earned 7 merit badges. His Dad and Hayden went up and helped with camp this year. Hayden worked at this camp when he was 15 so he was an asset to the scout leader who had never been to scout camp before.

This is where they hold the campfires and flag ceremonies, to the left is the Teton's.

This is the lake where they do the water activities. They all have to pass a swim check before they can participate in the water events.

Can you believe he is my baby-Wow where did that time go, he is getting so big and I am excited for him but my heart aches at the same time.

iDevin was able to get some great pictures of the wild life that lives around the camp. This is a wood pecker that was right by the handicraft area.

There were several moose that hung out in the camp and one day swim time had to be canceled because the moose would not leave.

If you look closely you can see a squirrel. Hayden helped the boys trap a squirrel and then they wrapped it up and gave it to their youth leader as a present at the campfire. When he opened the box the squirrel came bounding out and gave them all a good scare. The boys were awarded the best camp at the end for their enthusiasm and their unique gift.

Handcart Trek 2010

Devin and I had the chance to go on a handcart trek this summer with our stake. We had an amazing time with our group. We were handcart company #16. Our group consisted of Jason, Javier, Zach, Kolton, Kasei, Caroline, and Laura. We Treked for 23 miles and between the 200 people we drank 800 gallons of water!

This summer on July 24th we went to Idaho Falls and watched the Blue Angels. This was one of the best birthday activities we have done in a long time. I love watching planes fly and seeing their strength, it makes me also think of my dad and I got to spend this birthday with my Dad. I love you Dad!

On our trip to San Fransisco we went to a place called Muir Woods. It is kinda a mini version of the Redwoods. It was where Theodore Roosevelt held the first meeting to form the United Nations. It had such a calm serenity about it and was a scared place. I highly recommend if your in that area to go walk through and enjoy the beauty of Gods creations.

Devin is an amazing photographer and always captures our trip with amazing pictures.

We found tickets on Craig's List and met some guy at an undisclosed parking lot and exchanged cold hard cash for tickets. It almost felt illegal but it wasn't. This is our annual trip to Island Park snowmobiling. This year was different from the rest because our Uncle Gene and Aunt Monde could not come because of Gene's stroke. We missed them a lot and pray for his recovery. I realized how important family is and I am so glad that my family keeps this tradition. I think we have been doing it now for 12+ years. Thanks family for the great memories-I love you!

This year for Christmas we decided to go to the Trabin in Island Park, Idaho. This will be our last Christmas together till Hayden gets back from his mission. The plan was to rent snowmobiles and have a good old time together. The snow was not too bountiful and so we didn't end up renting snowmobiles but that didn't stop us from having fun Idaho style. You know you are redneck when you pull each other behind Danny's truck riding a snow board. It was like wake boarding in snow and not water. We had a blast and the neighbors in shot gun wondered about us the whole time. We did get some funny looks.

Last Saturday July 25 we decided to go run the Hoback. We had an amazing time and thought we would make two runs but only ended up making one fabulous one. So needless to say the water proof camera got left in the car. We stopped at Lunch counter and some of us rode threw in our life jackets. It was pretty exciting I must admit. We also stopped at the Rock and Ashley jumped off along with others. Way to go Ash-she is affraid of heights-or should I say way to go Ryley for pushing her!

For the past three years our family has gone to the local air show in Rexburg. A local aviator, John Bagley, puts on the air show all at his expense. John has a lot of WWII air planes that take flight and roar in the sky as they buzz the airport every year along with friends that have planes that come and join him. This year as I was sitting in my lounge chair watching the airplanes fly by and do all their amazing tricks as I looked around at my boys-Ry, Garett, and Easton, along with Chelse and my husband Devin I realized how come I love coming to the air show and always feel a peace and sense of calm. My Dad was a pilot and enjoyed flying and taking people to places for the weekend. I always knew when my Dad was home from a trip because he would fly over our house-or buzz the house to let us know to go to the airport and pick him up. The level of excitment would raise as we would here the roar of the plane flying over head. We lived next to a mountain so it was a little tricky for my Dad not getting to close but close enough that he would have a ride home. I remember time after time driving across town to get to the airport and the excitement of picking him up. In January of 1979 my Dad left for a usual trip to California only this time he was never able to buzz the house again. His plane crashed just after take off at the Spanish Fork Airport. So as I sat at the air show on June 20 I got the feeling again and again that my Dad was coming home. It was like I got to spend the day with my Dad. I love the sound of an airplane flying over head. Thanks Dad and I love you!!

This is Ry and Chelse getting ready to start their adventure. Chelse finally gets to see what Ryley has up his sleeve. They decided to ride Devin's motorbike on their date. Ry made a scavanger hunt going places that they had been on dates and other fun things they have done together.

SnowOasis-Chelse's next favortrite spot. A true Idahoian can eat snow cones even when it is freezing outside! Did we mention that Chelse is from Bear Lake, Idaho.

Ryley made Chelse a long board that he hand painted-the picture was one that Chelse had doodled clear back in September that Ryley had kept.

Ry and Chelse eating their food finally after he proposed-the proposal is on a video. They are sitting on the blanket that Ry made for Chelse with her favorite pair of jeans being sewed to the center because they were beyond repair. Ry put the ring in the pocket of the jeans and she felt the box when she sat on the quilt.

The ring and now it is offical-tenative date August 21!

We all ended up eating in separate cars and just smiling and looking at each other as we enjoyed that birthday dinner together!

This year we did our Easter Egg dying on Thursday before Easter because on Friday Danny and Branae were leaving for Philadelphia for the summer, and Ashley is leaving for Provo on Sunday. Wow are things changing at the Shaum's. We had our first official cookout with Chicken and grilled veggies. Yeah I can't wait for summer it was so yummie. This year I bought two dying kits so we would have plenty and not wait for a color. Easter egg dying is always interesting at the Shaum house it doesn't take long for the tape and glue gun to get out and the creative juices start flowing.

In March Devin and Hayden took a trip to Washington D.C. They had a great time and was able to see a lot of places and people. Hayden has had an interest in the government since taking a class in high school. It was a good experience to see things up close and personal! Branae's surprise Birthday Party

Sunday the family got together and had a surprise birthday party for Branae. The Fisher's came up for the cake and ice cream part.

This is the car that we bought over a year ago that had been wrecked and we had it fixed up and flew out to Washington D.C. to pick it up. When we got there the people that were fixing it gave us some lame excuse that they couldn't put the new dash board in- the old one had been ruined when the air bag went off on the passenger side. The workers gladly handed us a new dash board that they had and wished us a happy trip home. Needless to say that the trip across country suddenly became a little bit cramped for the boys in the back seat. The dash has been sitting in my garage for about a 1 1/2. I have gotten several appraisals and to replace the dash that I already have was going to cost me about $650 for the labor. I just couldn't bring myself to paying that and you know it is easy to get used to things the way they are. Well about 2 weeks ago Ryley and I were heading home from town and he starts to pull things off my dash board. I said "what do you think you are doing?" Ryley says "I think that I could fix your dash for you." All I could say is I don't want a torn apart car that I can't drive and I have to work at six!

Well the next few pictures tells you what happened next. Yeah he tore into the car!

I am glad to report that this story ends good. RYLEY FIXED MY CAR! Ry had to unhook the driver airbag replaced the passenger air bag and in this process take off the steering wheel. He fixed my car put it back together and had it finished in about 4 1/2 hours where he showed up at my work with my car all intact and looking better than before! Yeah who would of thought that cute, mischievous boy could do some thing like this-Ryley there is nothing you can't do-I love that you have part of Grandpa Stoker in you!

At the start of each new semester at BYU-I, Ryley throws a waffle party. (Devin bought an industrial strength waffle iron on E-bay-out bid a little old lady at the last minute.) So this semester is no different. There was probably about 40 hungry college students and we went through 2 bags of waffle mix, 2 dozen eggs, 2 pounds of butter, and 8 times the recipe of butter milk syrup.

Easton is amazed because a girl Mary broke the record for most waffles ate. The new record is now 19 waffles. We would have taken her picture but she suddenly had to leave?!

Island Park 2009

So we took our annual family adult trip to Island Park and as usual had a great time. Only one snow machine broke down and it didn't take the guys long to fix it once they got the part. Uncle Gene and Aunt Monte our my heroes they are both still going strong and Uncle Gene can still tear up the hill at 82 WOW I hope I am still going strong at that age. Devin took some amazing pictures of Island Park in the winter and the semi-truck was not ours it was just one he saw! Thanks Lynn and Rich for letting us invade your cabin and we all loved the knobs on the cabinets!!!

December 27-The miracle day- Pictures with the WHOLE Shaum family

On December 27 at Maddox (Grandpa and Grandma Williams were probably there) the Shaum family got together for a family picture. Lindsay Romer is the miracle worker and the one who planned the whole thing-thank you Lindsay you are amazing. I don't know if you can count them but there are 51 people in the Jack and Jean Shaum posterity! We love you Grandpa and Grandma, thank you for being such good examples in our lives, you are the strongest link in our chain!

December 26-Christmas at Grandma and Grandpa's Shaum's

We stayed home for Christmas this year and made a quick trip down on the 26th and back on the 27th-I don't even think we were there for 24 hours, but any time with Grandma and Grandpa is priceless. We opened our gifts from Grandma and Grandpa and the usual shouting, screaming, and whistling went on. The best part is to hear Grandma and Grandpa tell us how much we mean to them and how much they love us. We LoVe YoU TwO even more!

The joke was on Danny this year and we all got a kick out of it. This year for the Devin and Kim Shaum family we drew names and decided that everyone would buy each other a book. We opened our books on Christmas but Danny and Branae weren't there-they were in Franklin with the Porter's. Devin got a world map book, I got a book from Garett that he made in school and it is his life history, Ryley got a gift certificate to go to the Face Reader so he can be read like a book, Ashley got a piano book, Hayden got a book on graphic design, Garett got a book on sport facts, Easton got a book on how to make radio's and alarms. So when we finished Christmas with Grandma and Grandpa we asked if we could finish our Christmas. I had Danny's name and Devin being the practical joker that he is had a great idea of buying a book at DI and cutting the center out and putting some AR15 bullets inside. So Devin found a perfect book something on physical and mental health. I wrapped it up and gave it too him after our Christmas was done with the Shaum's. but before it I gave Danny some big speech about how this book has meant a lot to Devin and I in our marriage and we just wanted him to have it to help him and Branae-I even almost cried it was an amazing performance. It was silent as everyone watched Danny open the book. If you could of seen the look on Danny and Branae's face along with every one else as he read the title. Needless to say he finally opened the book and there was nothing but laughter-so this next picture and the one before are from that moment. We love you Danny thanks for being a good sport and promise me you won't use those bullets on me!

You are probably wondering why I put this blurry crazy picture up for Christmas Eve? These are the only pictures we took on Christmas Eve I think we were too busy having fun with the Fishers and eating that we forgot to capture the moment. For the Shaum's sake the highlight of the food was Grandma Jean's Christmas Triffle-thanks grandma for the fun tradition. Fisher's brought up their WII and we had a box off between the Fisher's and the Shaum's. We all took turns fighting each other and when it was all over the score was 72 to 0. The Fisher's did an old fashion whipping on the Shaum's. Devin is a little worried if Fisher's are missing church to practice. Needless to say WE STINK!!! We had a great time! Merry Christmas Everyone!

December 20-Ginger Bread Houses!

This year for Christmas I have tried to do things before so that I don't wake up Christmas morning and feel that Christmas is all over and I missed it. This is the second year that we have done ginger bread houses and I think in about 5 years we will be pro's. Ashley, Branae, and Danny did the Aloha Shack and Easton, Aj and Garett did the traditional ginger bread house. We had a great time creating and being together!

This is the back side of the Aloha shack. Notice the party lights oh yeah! The roof is made out of shredded wheat-we are down to about 20 boxes left of the 110. We will do anything to get rid of them.

This is the boys creation and yes they did it all by themselves except for a little help spreading the frosting and rolling out the stain glass windows. You can tell it is the boys because there has to be a car involved!

Thanksgiving Morning-Shooting Guns

Thanksgiving morning a bunch of us went up in the hills behind mom's house and did some skeet shouting. Yeah there were so many weapons and bullets that Obama would have been shaking in his boots. We had a great time and a few of the more seasoned shooters brought ear plugs. Danny's AR15 had to be the loudest as it echoed down a big pipe-it sounded like a cruise ship leaving the harbor. We all had a great time and I felt a lot safer knowing that I will be protected by the people in my family and their amazing accuracy!

There is a Surgeon-Dr. Christensen- at the hospital where I work at that is famous for growing Giant pumpkins. This year we got some seeds from him and tried our hand at it. We got a late start and didn't plant them until the end of April by this time Dr. C's pumpkins already had 12 foot runners off his. He has it down to a fine science, there is a four page single spaced detailed outline on how to grow them. Saturday was the weigh off day and everyone could bring their pumpkins to his house to be weighed and have a pot luck dinner. We didn't take ours because we knew that they would not even hold a candle so we left them home in the garden to grow until the frost comes!

Close up of the biggest of our pumpkins we are guessing about 50-60 lbs.

Some one brought a watermelon to the weigh off. It weighed 92 lbs.

This is a picture of Dr. Christensen with the biggest pumpkin of this year weighing 1003 lbs. His pumpkin last year beat the state record at 1040. This one was 38 lbs. short of beating the record.

I suddenly get this urgent feeling to try and do all those things I wanted to do this past summer but let time slip away from me. With the change of the season you can feel fall in the air and we know that snow is not that far away. Some of the family members went to climb the Butte south of Rexburg. It started pouring just as we started to leave the drive way but we decided that we were going for it any way. As we got closer to the Butte there were rain clouds all around the valley but none over the Butte. We had a wonderful time with the temperature being just right and having the opportunity to appreciate all of Gods creations. WE are so blessed to live in this place at this time and with the people we love!

The boys have been after me to put pictures of their turtles on the blog so here is goes. I think that it is pet day at the Shaum's. The turtles are red eared sliders.

Garett got an ant farm for his birthday in November 2007. It was too cold to ship the ants so we waited till spring and then it was too hot to ship the ants(it had to be below 85 degrees for 10 days). Guess what came in the mail today??? ANTS!!!!!!

Notice the tube connected to the side of the ant farm. The ants are in there, we had to put them in the fridge for 15 minutes so they could be loaded into the farm.

So it is huckleberry season again. We have been out a couple of times and last night we went to our favorite spot-Huckleberry valley. I can't tell you where it is or I will have to kill you after. Devin and I and Garett and Easton went last night. After picking we cooked some hot dogs and cooked pork and beans and ate them out of the can-life is good. The boys and I with Cindy Hansen and Holden went again this morning we just couldn't let all those good berries go to waste. I think we are all lined up for a few good cheese cakes this winter.

The Stoker Family Reunion-Big Elk Creek, Idaho 2008

This year the Stoker reunion was held at Big Elk Creek Campground located about 4 miles past the Palisades Dam in good old Idaho. We had a great time even though we got rained on a lot. I think when the Stoker's meet the heavens weep. Next year we are planning the reunion on the day in the summer that usually gets the least amount of rain and then we can smash so old records. We did a whole lot of rafting but I don't have any pictures so if any one wants to email me some I will add them to the blog. It was a blast lots of water fights and some crazy rapids.
